However... the question you asked is what makes you more effective. Equipment & upgrades dont make you more effective. If this was the case, our military could equip thousands of untrained folks and call them soldiers. No bootcamp or training needed.
I have upgrades that work well.... Good knee pad's for hitting the dirt when needed. Good radio's & throat mic's for communicating with your flankers & team members. Good, accurate barrels, and GOOD paint so I hit what I aim at. But.... woodscraft is the number one thing you are going to need to be truly "effective". This is what puts you into the position to use all that expensive equipment & upgrades to the best benefit.
The best barrel in the world wont save you from a country boy raised in the woods shooting a pump... if he see's you coming from half a field away.
What do I use?
CP backs and barrels... J&J barrels... (soon a flasc barrel) tuned to the paint as it sits that day (shooting a barrel back matched to the paint at its diameter that day.. it changes). Pinokio hoppers... remote line with 68/4500 tanks.... a good comfortable vest to carry enough air & paint to be effective. A high quality mask with thermal lenses. Burlap & netting to make decent camo for the hopper & mask to break up the outline. Good boots.
The best advice, apart from woodscraft? Save up and buy the best you can afford. Buy better paint, even if it is more expensive. You'll hit what you're aiming at... thus need to shoot less. Buying cheap paint is not saving you money... its just forcing you to shoot 2 to 3 times more balls to hit the same target.
Needless upgrades. No offense to anyone here... but... how many guys do you know who will spend $100 on tactical gear for their marker... then go to the store and buy the cheapest paint they can get?
You need to look at what YOUR goals are. Do you want to be a character playing a role in a scenario.. thus in need of expensive costume add ons? Do you want to be a "sniper".. using stealth and a few balls to make a kill? Do you want to be the coolest guy on the field? Or do you want to be the guy no one see's until its too late? Do you want to be the fast runner who runs & guns with no fear?
The equipment needs & upgrades for each of those "guys" is different. Which guy are you? figure that out, and spend accordingly.
