I've wanted for a long time to build a Squad Assault Weapon, the M248.  Well Ebay had the body shroud on sale for $69.00 and a stock cheap as well so I took the plunge.  Now I need to pick up the front sight and find out how to connect my large 'can' on the bottom of the shroud.  I hope to have pics up within a week or so.  Man I'm psyched!!!

let me know what needs to be modded on the 249 shroud.  I see they have more but they're A5 shrouds.... shouldn't be that difficult?

You should put all that on the mag conversion kit and use the box mag. That would be sweet

I would use the RAP4 mag IF I could keep my BT-4. Sad to say no, it becomes a Tacomo/RAP4 marker.  However like a previous member and SAW owner here, I will keep the Rip Clip.  Its just a matter of cutting with a dremel a bit where the RC is and a minor notch for the rear hammer pull of the BT-4.  It will be a "Beast" for sure on the field.  Hey why do we like to scare the new guys everytime we go to the field? LOL!!!

I am rendering mine around the Mk2 version. Here's Jackal's BT4SAW. Paratrooper style!

That will be pretty.  I still have to revisit my box mag.  It was "functional" except for the motor not working anymore - need to just swap it out with a new one that I have lying around.  I still don't think it will look as cool as Tomcat's is bound to. .

I still think you should start with a TM15.

I got most of the parts in.  The shroud needs minor mods (notch for cocking arm and open the Cyclone opening to match the Rip Clip - that's how you get around the A5 shroud).  RAP4, as usual, sent the wrong mount for my SAW Stock but I trimmed it down and wrapped a bit of electrical tape around it and it fits fine.  In order to get the right one from RAP4 they wanted me to send back the $39 stock paid by me and after they received the bad one send out a new one and re-imburse me for the postage.  What and wait another 2 - 2-1/2 weeks!  No, I just modified myself.

My box mag doesn't have a mount for some reason so Have to pick one up.  I should also pick up the front sight from Opsgear as well.

Yes use the A5 shroud.  It doesn't come with an allen wrench though.  Bad decision.  I will post pics up of the changes and the pieces this weekend.  Hopefully I'll be done in a couple of weeks.  (Actual work time is about two days tops)

DadOps if I lived a bit closer, I would be over in a heart beat.

I have ordered a new OPSGEAR box mag, front sight and sight ring.  I may have to order from Dave a barrel and a Dishka tip. Modding for the "Rip Clip" is a bit more time consuming but it shouldn't be that bad.  I'll take some in-process pics and display them here.  I tried my 18" barrel but it made it into an "extreme" monster.  That is one heavy duty body shroud.  Don't believe the talk of 'light weight' feel.  A BT-4 with this shroud is made for guys with good arms and a great sling!  It is one of if not THE beasts (looks wise) on the field.  It made my M4 with M203 variant look tame!

OPSGEAR UPDATE! - this week...
All A5 kits (which can be used with some small mods for the BT-4, are on Sale.  The M248 SAW kit is just $112.00 USD!  Great savings.

That give \you the shroud, sights, Box mag and folding stock (I chose the solid angled stock), and bipod.  That is cheaper than the forward sight, Box Mag and Bipod alone!

You can use an A5 stock on a BT?

You've inspired me to make a SAW. I have some left over parts: body halves, and old egrip, feed neck etc. I want to do something with it and I've always wanted a SAW. Just need to work on getting a complete set of screws, nuts, and the remaining internals I'll have another marker.
Cheers!
