So I am new as I have said lol but should I get my gun first or like padding and a mask? I am going to get padding because I don't want bruises every weekend so what would you all recommend gun or gear first?

I would recommend a good mask first, then gun, then pick and choose your accessories afterwards

Jaz is right. The first thing you want to spend your money on is a good quality mask. Make sure you can try them on and see which one fits you best. A thermal lense is a must. The reason is because your mask will fog if you get a single pane lense. If you can't see you can't shoot. Once you have the mask then get your marker and your tank. Do not e tempted by the cheaper price of a CO2 tank. But an HPA tank from the get go.

Save phace masks have "limited coverage"  Little to no protection in the neck area.  Let's just say I'm not a fan of Save Phace.  Just way to little coverage for me.

Save Phace looks cool... in my opinion, that's it.  You said you're worried about bruises and stuff, I'd think twice on your mask choice.

also, check the gear section of this forum.  There are a lot of reviews and comparisons on different equipment like masks, guns, soft gear etc.

No mask will protect your neck below your ears or chin so I would go with a neck protector or shemag for sure. Maybe look into the JT headsheild as well. Full head protection. The save phace masks are terrible. don't let the "cool" look sell you a mask. Wearing baggy clothing will work the same as padding until you can buy some.

Three good mask selections personally are the JT Flex 8, the JT profelx, or the Empire Events.

First... Before anything, get a good mask and enjoy the game first. Its like having a high performance car but no highway to race it on.

1. Safety first. Accidents happen when you least expect it, so be prepared. A good mask is a MUST. Have in mind the coverage (like tom cat stated) and make sure your lens don't fog. You cant lift your mask and wipe it while on the field.

2. Upgrades vary depending on which way you tend to go. You can go on the correct path my son and go militarism; or go down the path of sin and destruction to speed ball. Known fact - Speed ball shortens life expectancy.

I upgraded my paintball gun when I first started and it was great until I realized I could not last more than 30 minutes without the mask being completely fogged. Great gun and no visibility = NO FUN. Get your mask and enjoy the game.

Also, do what you must to enjoy the game. Do wear padding BUT not to the point where the paint does not break when it hits you. It does not hurt and if you think it does, then wear proper gear. Get paintball graded gear like BT. We are all here to help and never loose respect/honesty in this game.

For the most part paintball is like that. Unfortunately you will see that 1 guy at almost every field. The trick is not to let it discourage you from playing and have a great time regardless of what  they say or do. All the pro's wear padding so I wouldn't worry to much about it.  Just don't show up in full hockey gear and you should be fine.

Haha hockey gear that's good. No I'm not going to wear that much a chest piece and padded pants and obviously a mask.

LOL don't laugh, I've seen it before. Most experienced players wear exactly the same padding as you are talking about so yo would fit in just fine. You can get some really nice under armor style under shirts that have some chest, back, and arm padding in them.

I almost forget to mention this one last key vital piece of equipment that you should absolutely wear at all times when entering the field... a jock. The one time I forgot mine and didn't wear it, I figured, it's just going to be a one-on-one pistol tournament, I'll be fine. Wouldn't ya know it, I got beaned in the cheese and giblets from about five feet away. I got kinda lucky because the guns were turned down but good lord it hurt like hell.
