I just got an ERC. It sounds like a barrel would be the first item to get. I see people like the Lapcos - is there a "standard" length barrel that most go with?

Thanks
Eric

You will love that J&J edge kit metalhead39. Just need to get a paintball sizer and your all set to match your back to the paint.

what happens is that if someone casts a vote it updates the time and since i was the last person to post a reply thats why it shows me as the last person to post. If i didnt reply now and if someone placed a vote tomorrow you would have been there in lieu of me. hope that made sense.

By far the first upgrade needs to be a barrel. And IMO all you need is a good barrel, a replacement PT and bolt (efficiency), switch to air. That really is all you need IMO, but I'm not one for cosmetics. You need the barrel to increase accuracy. The stock PT sometimes is a POS and a metal one will never break. A better bolt will increase efficiency by far, and the best upgrade bolt would be the orange ones. I can't remember who makes em. Then last of all to eliminate any problems with co2 go out and get a steel air tank. I mean a 45/3k is like $55 brand new.

After getting these upgrades, then you should go into cosmetics. I mean if you want to shoot faster get a better hopper (I highly recommend a revvy) and an egrip. Then if you want to and use a vest get a remote and stock. Then any furniture. Furniture should be the last stuff you add to your gun IMO. I prefer performance, then looks.

I was lucky enough to have a friend with a BT and tons of spare parts, so I strapped on the collapsable stock and Iron sight from his assault, and used his JCS 5.5" Barrel... so really I just got everything at once :grin2:

Let's analyze the data and not "jump" to conclusions.  The raw data suggests that a barrel is the number one upgrade - but that would not be entirely true.  For owners of the Combat and SWAT and some Banshee owners yes that holds true.  For the Assault, Ironhorse, ERC, and Delta - the barrel isn't a concern as a first upgrade.  PT seems like a universal upgrade/replacement.  From this point on its up for grabs.  So let us look at the data against certain markers not just a summary review.
Here is a list of members with known preference and if the Barrel was their choice for first upgrade.
  • Combat - Barrel (86%)
  • Assault - Barrel  (10%)
  • SWAT- Barrel (100%)
  • Banshee - Barrel (33%)
  • Ironhorse - Barrel (0%)
  • ERC - Barrel (100%)
There are more "Combat" owners on the site so sometimes it looks like the BT-4 has a barrel issue.  It is only related to the SWAT and COMBAT versions.

OK then, what was the top selection of the other markers:
  • Assault - Tied between Hopper, Sling, and Remote/X-chamber
  • Ironhorse - Tied between Mag and Internals
  • Banshee - Upgrades included Internals and Hopper.
  • Delta - No member posted directly here, however throughout the Delta Forums, the barrel is not the prevalent swap.  It appears to be the E-grip and Rip Clip

I guess the proper question should be: "For YOUR marker, what was the first upgrade?".

Very true Tom. War, you should really listen to Tom. I personally go for a different barrel even if I got any of the other versions, but that's just because of my personal barrel preferences. I never really liked the accuracy I got out of the assault barrel I used for a bit, but that's just me. Thanks for the in depth research Tom. That should help new people a ton.

With TC's new data my first upgrades were as follows:
Assault: X chamber orignally grip and Empire II Hopper, Eventually switched the grip to mag X chamber
Combat: Stock and barrel at the same time
Delta: Rip Clip and e grip at the same time
Erc: Stock

1st Upgrade I keep getting for most guns are Barrels. Well, What really happens is I go into my stock room, Pick out a bunch of upgrades, and then throw them on. But I would have to say, Take a stock BT, Throw on a good barrel, a 50 round hopper, and a 12 oz tank, Ghillie it up, and theres my preferred playing style.

If you replace the Assault/Ironhorse barrel, you are unnecessarily getting rid of a good barrel.  I have used the Assault 14" barrel for over 2 years and made more than few pay by sending them back to the dead hut and I'm not talking 50' shots either.

Tom I dunno how you did that but I assume it has to do with Admin magic. But great info all the same. That post alone could really help new players/ prospective BT owners in making their decisions for which marker to get.

My first upgrade was a drop forward...i have big arms and the drop gave me more room and comfort between the tank and the stock of the banshee...!

BRIK - you need to get the tank off the marker thats all.  A remote with a Tac Vest or Good harness pack would help out as well.

Tomcat...Oh believe me my friend, they are on the list...the drop forward was much more cost effective at the time of purchase...I've been itching to modify my marker, so this season its time for an overhaul on Able...I named my Banshee Able cause she's always been able to get me out of a bind...!  :grin2:
