I noticed the infamous "Floating ORING o' death "  when I took apart my bt4 today.

I read somewhere in here ( I think it was tomcat that said that ) about it being there to absorb some of the hammer shock.

Would gently gluing it to the back of the hammer be a good idea? ( I hate floating parts lol ) Plus it seems to me like the absorption would be much more constant that way.

Would that change anything?

Ty! :P

I would leave it alone.  It floats and id is hidden. Gluing it to the hammer or stock tube/rear piece just invites more FOD (Foreign Object/debris) into the chamber  You don't see it and it functions fine.  It doesn't really 'float' its just not 'fixed' in position.  Trust me I owned BT-4's since 2005 and had very few failures - none relating to the rear, over the drive spring o-ring.  Just go have fun with it.

What he said, but ill also say that after playing with it a little bit the lube you used to oil the gun will make it "stick" to the stock as it sits inside your gun. You'll think it fell off or broke but just take your gun apart and you'll find it.

Ya Ive lost a few because When Id take em apart id threw stock somewhere not realizing it was stuck to it. Then Id reassemble it forgetting to put one back. Id say that not putting back that oring has lead me to reopen my BT4s multiple times.

Perhaps the stock should come with the o-ring attached to it in the first place?

That's not a horrible idea, but honestly, I have never had an issue with my BT due to that o-ring just hanging out back there.

Haha yah there really isn't much of a point to glue it. It sits there, does no harm. I'd say let it be! :)

I actually noticed when I put my stock back on after taking it apart the o ring slid into the grooves meant for the stock and prevented me from closing the shell all the way. If you were to modify your idea however and put a thin rubber stopper with a smaller outer diameter then the inside of the bolt guide/nook it would work.

Yeah I've never had a problem with that O-ring, EXCEPT when I was running an ACT 98 custom... Sometimes it got caught in the top spring and made the ACT go nutso.

Well that could be a pain. They are easy to replace though which is handy

You know, I don't think you're being too difficult here. Coming from owning a bunch of markers, notably Smart Parts, it seems strange having a "free floating" o-ring!!

"Takes some getting used to":suspicious:
