I play woodsball with a big group of friends.  I have a stock BT-4 Combat marker, but will be purchasing an Apex 2 barrel soon.  I use CO2 (upgrading to HPA is not an option because we're in the middle of nowhere and our refill setup is CO2.)  We usually play in colder temperatures (30 - 55 degrees F).   Aside from lack of distance and accuracy, one of my main problems is that I can't shoot through brush and leaves.  When I'm close to an opponent and there's tall, leafy brush between us we'll both unload on each other through the brush.  Their balls get through to me, mine don't get through to them.  Because of this, and because our rules are that if you're hit you're out whether it breaks or not, I'm thinking that maybe something with a thicker, stronger shell would be good.

I've been using cheap balls from Wal-Mart (Reaction and Visible Impact) and am looking for an upgrade.  Bonus points if I can order them online with reasonable shipping costs.

The problems I've noticed with my current setup and paintballs are:

--Lack of distance, accuracy and consistency
--They don't shoot through brush as well as other people's.

Any suggestions on better paintballs for this type of use?

Well, since you can't use HPA, I'd recommend polishing your internals so that you have a smoother shot. I also recommend a Flasc barrel which will improve accuracy. Generally a bigger bored barrel like a .693 will yield better accuracy but less efficiency... I have used Cryptic paintballs which I get from Canadian Tire and they are definitely lower quality paintballs but they go through bush and brush very well! They have a very thick shell and will do you some damage! They are also very affordable paintballs. About 40$ a case. But I do recommend higher quality paintballs like RPS PRemium if you want better accuracy as cryptic won't solve your accuracy issues. Draxxus Triumph is also a decent paint brand as I find they have a thick shell and are about 55$ a case I think...

Hope this helps

Playing Outlaw ball huh?  Dangerous if safety is not considered.  What is your marker chrono'd at?  I bet it hasn't been chrono'd...Muzzle velocity and ball size is the key.  CO2 in cold weather doesn't expand well causing low velocity but as the day warms up it should increase, usually to a dangerous level.  Since I play at only approve fields for the last 5 years I have been required to use their paint so my marker and barrel set up must be versatile.

I had good performance with JT Recon balls from Walmart.  If they[re still available.  NO MONSTER PAINT!  It doesn't break and people will start to get even with you eventually.  - Not cool.

Good Luck and make sure you chrono all those markers for no greater than 285 fps.

Thanks for the tips. We hadn't been using a chrono but I just got one after educating myself on various forums and brought it to our game last weekend. Everyone was under 300 except for one guy who was at 350. We're all under 300 now and checking regularly between matches.

Regarding the Flasc barrel:  I was about to order an Apex 2. Can I take the end off of that and put it on a Flasc barrel?  If I do will it make a big difference over using it with the stock Apex 2 barrel?

Thanks!

I think it can yes but you have to have a certain amount of extra length to mount the barrel on. I believe it sits 3" farther back on any regular apex barrel. The stock apex 2 barrel isn't half bad but you can customize Flasc's bore sizes, lengths and porting etc giving you a very efficient barrel, loud barrel, or accurate barrel! Im  n ot 100% sure on the fitting though. I own the apex 2 but I dont have any other barrel to try it on. You can pm bvdave on here for answers. He owns flasc paintball

You will need a FLASC apex adapter tip on the Flasc barrel before you can do this. Also as make sure you get the APEX with the A5 threads for the BT Combat. The other version is Cocker thread and wont mount on the combat.
As  for shooting thru bush and leaves depending on how thick you may have problems with any paint.

Not sure if they still make these or not but a good ball for woodsball play are the Gatorblacks or arbalizer I think both are from RPS.

I use Heat for most of the outlaw games I play at. I bring a bag of Marb's for the stock class guns though. But I have had good luck with Heat and it's fairly cheap for a case. Feyd..........................

I have used heat before and it is alright for the price. I still highly recommend all star for tournaments but if you want a good all around paintball, go with stuff from RPS like Premium, Formula 13 etc... I use RPS Polar ice in the winter and it kicks butt

Stinger is the cheap RPS correct? I've used that as well, it's the same as Heat. Trust me when I go to a game day other than outlaw I shoot good paint. I do like Allstar as well as Evil. But I can buy a bag of Marb's for 18.00$ so thats what I have been getting as well. Feyd...........

Just tried out some formula 13 paint yesterday and for the price, it wasn't half bad. Didn't have any breaks and the shell was fairly consitent.
