If you're thinking about buying one or already have one and wouldn't mind learning some tricks and picking up a few tips:

The damage on the back of your 720P, is it because of inevitable wear or just rough abuse? I couldn't image such wear to happen from just recording paintball.

A little of both, since you do end up bumping into branches and such, but also because it starts to wear out. After a little damage, it gradually becomes worse.
Since the back doesn't stay on as well when you move around, and every time after that, it will come off more easily, creating even more damage to those plastic hooks, until they break off completely.
If they had made those parts of metal, or if they had designed it (like the current ContourGPS and Contour+ back doors) right from the start so that it would lock closed, that would have prevented this issue altogether.

The door on the 1080P fits slightly better, but it's still without a lock and still based on flimsy plastic hooks holding it all in place.
